When AI Speeds Up the Wrong Thinking

Not long ago I saw a strategy that looked almost flawless.

Clear segmentation. Channel logic. Messaging pillars. A detailed rollout calendar.
It had been developed with the help of AI tools.

The document was impressive.
Execution was not.

Within weeks the plan began to unravel.

Not because the technology failed.
Because the thinking around it did.

The strategy was built on a market reading that felt plausible but was fundamentally wrong.

Customers were expected to behave in a certain way.
Channels were assumed to perform predictably.
Internal capabilities were taken for granted.

The model simply constructed a coherent plan on top of these assumptions.

No one paused to test whether they were true.

Speed replaced scrutiny.

When convincing answers end the conversation

AI can produce structured outputs quickly.

This is powerful.
It is also psychologically dangerous.

When a plan looks complete and professionally argued, teams often move forward without fully interrogating it.

Questions that once took weeks to explore are now bypassed.

Who will actually execute this?
What will break first?
What resistance will appear?

The organisation discovers the answers only after implementation begins.

The real risk is not automation

AI did not create poor judgement.

It accelerated its consequences.

In the past, flawed strategies might have taken months to develop.
Now they can be produced in hours and deployed almost immediately.

Mistakes scale faster.
Learning still takes time.

Capability atrophy

Over time a subtler effect appears.

People begin to rely on generated answers rather than developing their own analytical muscles.

Context is provided less carefully.
Verification becomes less rigorous.
Operational reflection is postponed.

The organisation becomes faster at deciding and weaker at understanding.

Reputational exposure

Eventually this internal dynamic becomes visible externally.

Customers encounter inconsistent messaging.
Campaigns miss their mark.
Operational promises cannot be fulfilled.

Trust erodes not because technology is advanced, but because responsibility has become diffuse.

AI is an extraordinary amplifier.

It can expand imagination, compress research cycles and accelerate execution.

But it cannot replace the discipline required to question assumptions and confront reality.

Technology makes movement easier.
Judgement still determines direction.
